Step Up To The Plate!

If you rode four or more Planet Ultra doubles (or longer) during 2002, then your name is on the list below and you qualify as one of the elite few who can wear the Planet Ultra Grand Slam Official Finisher jersey!

2002 Planet Ultra Grand Slam Official Finishers

In the year 2002, over 1,200 different riders participated in at least one of the twelve Planet Ultra weekends. Of those 1,200, a total of 461 completed at least one double century. Congrats to them!

A total of 39 riders did three Planet Ultra double centuries (or longer) in 2002. Congrats to all of them!

But going beyond, into the Grand Slam territory of four or more Planet Ultra doubles in one year, are just twenty-nine Planet Ultra Grand Slam Official Finishers! These are the super heroes of Planet Ultra, the hardiest of the hardy, the toughest of the tough, the few, the proud, the brave! Roll out the red carpet, because here they are:

These fourteen Grand Slam Official Finishers did four double centuries or longer:

*Mark Kaufman (Solvang, Eastern Sierra, Heartbreak, Death Valley Fall, Mulholland, and Ridge Route)
John T. Clare (Butterfield, Solvang, Death Valley Spring, Eastern Sierra, Heartbreak, and Death Valley Fall)

This Grand Slam Official Finisher did seven Planet Ultra double centuries or longer:
"Big Ring" Dave Evans more than earned the Grand Slam by doing seven Planet Ultra double centuries or longer: Butterfield, Solvang, Eastern Sierra, Heartbreak, and Tour of Two Forests, Mulholland, and the Ridge Route 400km.

And our most dedicated Grand Slam Official Finisher:
Merrick California Condor Cohn finished a total of nine double or longer events: all Planet Ultra Double Centuries (ToTF was ridden as a 600km), not to mention the entire Planet Ultra Brevet Series of 200km, 300km, 400km, and 600km distances, not to mention the AdventureCORPS Furnace Creek 508 Bicycle Race.

* These riders rode five ore more Planet Ultra 200 mile or longer events AND volunteered at at least one Planet Ultra event.
