It was a perfect day at the 2010 Mulholland Double Century. Cool temperatures and overcast skies made for excellent climbing conditions! And climb they did! Riders reported total elevation gain between 17,000 and 18,300 feet over the 209 miles; making the Mulholland Double one of the toughest around!

Congratulations to the 41 riders who completed the double in 16 hours or less and earned the rare and coveted t-shirt!

The 2010 California Triple Crown Stage Race is off to a great start with Marc Moons in the early lead, with Robert Choi and Curtis Taylor in the chase! John Camerino, Mark Lowe and David Palmeri are just 7 minutes out of third place. Jeanine Spence has a huge lead in the women's division, followed by KC Kahn and Karen Thompson in 2nd and 3rd. Two mixed tandems are in the race - Deborah & David Hoag ahead of Karen Koppenhaver & Mike Chester. The stage is set for Devil Mountain Double to be a huge battle! We wish everyone good luck!!!

Special kudos to John Camerino, who had never done a double before! Wow! The fourth best time the first time out! Way to go, John!

Heartfelt thanks to the wonderful volunteers who helped make this event happen!

A small sampling of the totally unsolicited, but greatly appreciated, rider feedback:

"Now that I'm back from Southern California, I just wanted to drop a quick line to thank Brian Bowling for his quick and efficient chain repair that he did for me on Yerba Buena Road. Replacing the chain was a much better idea than simply repairing the bent one, and I was quite pleased with the shifting performance of the new chain during the remainder of the ride. Also, I want to send thanks to the rest of the support. The staff at all the rest stops were very friendly and helpful, doing a great job supplying food and drinks and words of encouragement. The course was well marked and even with the Garmin I don't think I would have gotten lost this time. So my hat's off to all that helped make this a great ride." - Michael Svihura, Belmont, CA

"Wow Deb and Brian ... what a treat to have individual Bristol Farms sandwiches with fresh fruit and pasta. A nice change. The support was fantastic this year! Thanks Lynn, Frank, Saralie (my back thanks you :-), Terry, and all the other volunteers that made the miles easier for me. The crisp cool weather was a pleasant surprise after the heat of 2008. See ya at Eastern Sierra!" -Isabelle Drake, Laguna Beach, CA

"Thanks again for making a rather difficult double so much more tolerable. If it wasn’t for you, the volunteers and their smiling faces, along with their words of encouragement I have to think that many riders would not have pushed through to the finish line. I have to say that there were many surprises this year that made this much more enjoyable as well. The new host hotel was awesome and extremely accommodating. The exceptional food at the lunch stop, which included a great sandwich, pasta and fresh fruit, was a nice change and perfect to fuel us back up and allow us to continue on.  And of course, we couldn’t have asked for better weather. Throw in some great vistas, the waves crashing on the beach and the rocks, some amazing properties and even the awesome night skyline as we climbed Piuma and you can pretty much call this an epic ride! I’m certainly looking forward to Heartbreak and I’m truly grateful for your continued support and the sacrifice you make to bring such great events to us riders. Be sure to thank Brian for me for the knee warmers at the top of Piuma, as I had forgotten to bring mine. The descent down Stunt was definitely cold and it would have been much less tolerable without the knee warmers. Let the volunteers know that even though I might have been one of the few that stopped at Peter Strauss on the way back that I sure appreciated them being there and I most certainly enjoyed the chili and potatoes. Everyone that passed the Peter Strauss check point sure missed out on those potatoes and the kind words of the volunteers. Thanks so much for everything! See you again soon!" -Keith Jensen, Ramona, CA

"Just wanted to send you a quick note thanking you for the great support Saturday for the Mulholland Double. The staff at every stop got us through the checkpoints quickly, which saved us some valuable time.  The lunch in particular was fantastic. Also, big thanks to Scott and the Bicycle John's crew at Deer Creek.  Their cheery greetings made the long pulls on Mulholland worthwhile! See you next time!!!!" -Rick Jacobson, Van Nuys, CA
