2002 Tour of Two Forests and SoCal 600km Brevet, June 1, 2002

As the fire raged on behind Wolf's Grill, the ride continued. All the riders got past before the road was closed, except for 600km Brevet rider Lance Christensen. He had to turn around and ride back to Lancaster, then join up with the other three Brevet riders to then ride to Camarillo to finish their 380 mile adventure! Congratulations to all the riders in both events!

Terrell Anderson, Merrick Cohn, and James Kelleher also completed the Pine Mountain 600km Brevet. They began their 380 mile adventure in Camarillo at 1038pm on Friday night, then rode to Lancaster via Grimes Canyon, Valencia, and Bouquet Canyon. They arrived in Lancaster at 400am, then began the ToTF with the peloton at 515am. After completing ToTF, they slept in Lancaster, then got up, had breakfast, and rode back to Camarillo together. They all rode together coming from Camaraillo on Friday night and going back there via Soledad Canyon, Valencia, and Grimes Canyon at the end of the ride, finishing in a total elapsed time of 39 hours even. They represented the true spirit of randonneuring, from stepping up to the plate when we were going to cancel the event, to hosting the start/finish line at Merrick's house, to helping with route creation, to demonstrating self-sufficiency, and for the teamwork and sportsmanship that their first and last 80 miles together demonstrated.
